Our intrepid trustee Asif wanted to make a difference in the education of girls in Malawi by raising money for our Her Education Matters project. Here's Asif's story.
In support for the Her Education Matters project, I put myself forward for the London Triathlon being held at the Excel Arena (sprint version, so not too bad!) and reached out to friends, colleagues and supporters to sponsor me.
I am fortunate enough to have the most generous friends, and hit our £500 target in no time. That did put pressure on me to actually complete the race with only a couple of months to train.
Although I had some experience with triathlons, I was woefully under prepared but cometh the hour (a Sunday morning in late July), however the motivation of completing the race for the Her Education Matters project meant I turned up with all my kit, and a lot of energy bars, raring to go.
I am happy (and relieved) to say that after a bumpy start to the swim I was able to miraculously complete the race in 1 hour 40 minutes.
Without the donations and support, I don't think I would have even finished it, so a massive thank you to everyone!
And, I look forward to doing it again next year ... famous last words!
