On the 21st of May 2025 the 2 classrooms built under the Building Classrooms, Building Futures Project alongside Umodzi Youth Organization (UYO) were donated back to Mthawira Primary School in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kapeni, Blantyre District.

The handover ceremony was well-attended by various stakeholders, including government officials from the Director of Development Planning (DPD) and Director of Education, Youth, and Sports (DEYS), School Management Committee (SMC) members, Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), Mothers’ Group, local leaders, UYO and Think Malawi Board Member, Precious Mtuwa.

During the handover ceremony, Eluby Frackson, Deputy Headteacher of Mthawira Primary School, along with the pupils, expressed heartfelt gratitude to UYO for the generous support.

"We thank UYO for their continued support in education. We recognise the organisation's commitment to improving the learning environment," she said.

Frackson highlighted that the new infrastructure is expected to accommodate more pupils, thereby increasing enrolment and helping bridge the gap in access to quality education in the community.

The donation aims to enhance the learning environment and boost pupil enrolment and the new classrooms and desks will provide a comfortable and conducive space for learning, replacing makeshift lessons previously held under trees. Alongside these 120 spaces insides the 2 school classrooms, an additional office space will help improve administrative efficiency, positively impacting pupils’ academic performance and overall educational experience.

The donation marks a significant milestone in the school’s journey towards providing quality education and empowering students for a brighter future.

This project was made possible through funding from Think Malawi, whose partnership with UYO demonstrates the power of collaboration in driving sustainable change.

Through our Building Classrooms Building Futures Crowdfunder we raised £2,700 while other charity efforts helped meet the nearly £16,000 needed for the project. Read more about this here.
