Win big prizes: charity draw addressing period poverty in Malawi schools
This Christmas, your chance to win incredible prizes is a direct way to give the life-changing gift of education to girls in Malawi. By entering our charity prize draw, you help break down the barriers of school period poverty.

The urgent problem: period poverty stops girls' education

Imagine losing five days of vital education every single month. For 1,000 girls at two rural schools in Malawi, this is the reality. Lack of access to sanitary pads, safe changing rooms, and persistent social stigma forces them to stay home. Think Malawi is fixing this by targeting seven schools, providing resources and training so girls never miss school again because of their period.

Our partner, Fountain of Hope (FOHOP), implements these proven, community-led projects.

More about the school period poverty project
Your tickets directly support our planned project dedicated to helping 1,000 girls at Lufilya Secondary School and Mzinga Primary School. Any excess funds raised will go to our other period poverty projects.
Here are more key facts about the vital work your ticket purchase enables:
-
Targeted Solutions: At Lufilya Secondary School, 400 girls currently have nowhere private or hygienic to change, forcing them to miss class or go to nearby houses. Our solution is to build a dedicated sanitation block with private changing rooms and toilets.
-
Dropout Prevention: At Mzinga Primary School, 600 girls are at high risk of dropping out because their families cannot afford sanitary pads, leading to "continued absenteeism." This makes them vulnerable to early marriage and pregnancy.
-
Sustainability: For Mzinga Primary, we will not only provide reusable sanitary pads but also train a local mothers' group, giving them tailoring machines and materials to create a long-term, sustainable, and local source of affordable pads.
-
Community Buy-In: The local community has already shown full commitment by pledging land, unskilled labour, and materials valued at approximately £7,000 towards the project.
-
Proven Partnership: We are working with our proven local partner, Fountain of Hope (FOHOP), who has successfully delivered similar sanitation blocks and pad-making training at other schools.
-
Educational Impact: Across both schools, the project will provide crucial sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education for both boys and girls to help reduce the harmful social stigma around menstruation.
-
Outcome Goals: The final goal of this complete £12,000 project is to reduce girls' absenteeism due to menstruation by 60% and increase girls' retention in school by 70%.
-
The project will be managed and implemented by our in-country partner, Fountain of Hope (FOHOP). FOHOP will oversee construction and training, and will coordinate with all local stakeholders.
